Pre-Qualification vs. Pre-Approval

Pre-Qualification
  • You will need to describe your credit, debt, income, and assets.
  • Can be done over the phone, in person, or online.
  • Gives you an idea of what you can afford.
  • Getting pre-qualified can give you a sense of your financial readiness and introduce you to various mortgage options. It’s often a good step for first-time home buyers who are just testing the waters and aren’t ready to jump in.
Pre-Approval
  • Requires a credit pull.
  • Takes your approval process to the next level.
  • You will need to provide proof of your financial in the form of an in-depth application.
  • Can be done online or in person.
  • Tells you exactly what you can afford.
  • You will receive a “pre-approval letter” which in today’s market is needed to purchase a home.
